Square Enix is working hard on bringing the finishing touches to Final Fantasy XIII-2, the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, which continues the story seen in that role playing game. A couple of months ago, however, the Japanese company registered a special domain name for Final Fantasy XIII-3.
This prompted quite a lot of speculation on the web, with many fans saying that this pretty much confirms that another sequel to XIII is in the making.
Now, Square Enix has cleared things up, via
Andriasang, saying that the domain was registered by its North American branch without the consent of the Japanese headquarters. The action was a precautionary one, in order to avoid anyone else from registering it and tricking Final Fantasy fans into thinking that a new title was coming.
As such,
XIII-2 is the only sequel we’ll see at least in the near future, as it’s going to be released on January 31, in North America, and February 2, in Europe.
