Final Fantasy XIII-2, the Japanese role-playing game from publisher Square Enix, has managed to take over the number one position in the weekly video games chart for the United Kingdom, ending the long rule of FIFA 12, which seemed poised to keep its number one place secure until March.

For the week that ended on February 4 Final Fantasy XIII-2 has done very well, better than it managed in Japan during its launch period.

Now it leads the chart ahead of another new release with a Japanese profile, the Konami-published and Kojima Productions-developed Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which allows players to relieve the first games in the long-running series with better current-generation graphics.

The last place on the podium has been taken over by Battlefield 3, the first-person shooter from developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts, which means that FIFA 12, the football simulation from the same company, has been relegated to only the fourth position.

The game has shown a lot of resilience in the last few months and will probably bounce back towards the top positions in the coming weeks.

The third new release of the week, Soulcalibur V from Namco Bandai, has managed to enter the chart in fifth place, which is a strong performance for a fighting game.

Sixth place has been taken over by Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, the open world Ezio-powered title from French publisher Ubisoft, which has managed to climb three places coming from ninth.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, from Infinity Ward and Activision, has seen the joint shared biggest drop of the week, going from second place to seventh while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Bethesda has dropped from third to ninth.

The top ten is closed down by Saints Row: The Third from THQ, with games like Zumba Fitness Resident Evil: Revelations out of the top position of the chart.
