This would have been fantastic on the SNES, but it's fun enough to also watch now

Square Enix is at it again, it seems, as they just released another story video fashioned in the retro 16-bit manner in which many gamers became introduced to their games.

After doing it the first time with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, the developer has done it again it seems, the new video telling a story from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The community was of course pleased by the fan service the first time, as it will no doubt be this time around also.

It’s nice to know the big guys care about us lowly gamers and our nostalgia for times of glory past, and it’s reasons like this why Square Enix is considered one of the best out there.

The video wraps things up nicely, clocking right above three minutes for the entire thing. It’s something that I’d never imagined I’d see on in 16-bit visuals, an 8-man epic raid featuring a full boss battle. My brain refuses to imagine what would have happened if this would have been possible on a SNES.

Well, it is possible now and that’s all that matters. Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is alive and kicking, re-imagined after its initial flop, available on both the PC and the PlayStation 3, as well as on the PlayStation 4 starting April 14.
