DICE, the developer of the upcoming Battlefield 3 first person shooter, has confirmed that the current beta stage is based on an older build of the title, so the final edition, which is out later this month, will play much better, largely because of the copious amounts of feedback received from beta participants.

Battlefield 3 is shaping up to be a huge title, with DICE bringing an all-new engine, Frostbite 2, which allows for better animations, sharper visuals and all sorts of special effects, as well as an array of gameplay improvements over the previous Battlefield: Bad Company titles.

Fans of the series were finally able to try out the new title's multiplayer mode as part of a special open beta stage started last week and set to end on October 10, and see just how impressive the new shooter is going to be.

We already praised it in our quick look, but there were quite a few people that weren't that impressed with what they saw.

Now, DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson revealed that the beta is based on an older version of the game, and improvements were made since then, especially after feedback from the beta started coming in.

"The Battlefield 3 Open Beta is based on software that is more than one month old," he said. "Just like normal procedure when releasing a game, the Open Beta has had long lead times due to testing, certification, and setting up. This means that the code you are now playing is actually quite early and not representative of the final game."

"We had to do this in order to have as many people testing as possible, in order to ensure a top quality experience when the game is released. We appreciate your time and your feedback. The data and feedback from the Open Beta will not only directly affect the final game of Battlefield 3, but its future development and support."

Troedsson believes that the full game is going to be improved in all sorts of ways in comparison to the test version of the game.

"The final game will look, play and sound better than the Open Beta. You have helped making sure of that," he concluded.

Battlefield 3 is out on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 24, in North America, and October 27, in Europe.
