Just yesterday, around 12.30 pm, movie director Tony Scott, the younger brother of Ridley Scott, committed suicide by jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge, which links San Pedro, Los Angeles, with Terminal Island.

According to some sources, official accounts indicate that the filmmaker showed “no hesitation” prior to taking his own life. As well as this, it seems that a suicide note was found in Tony Scott's Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the bridge's lanes.

Because the waters below the Vincent Thomas Bridge were rather murky, it took about four hours for the authorities to locate the body and bring it back to shore. Apparently, they also required the use of a sonar in order to perform this task.

Once the body was retrieved, it was turned over to coroner officials.

For the time being, no comments have been made with respect to the motives which determined Tony Scott to make the decision of committing suicide. However, it is to be expected that more information and official press releases will soon follow.

Just as a reminder, Tony Scott was the man who brought us movies such as 'Top Gun,' 'Beverly Hills Cop II,' 'Enemy of the State,' and 'The Taking of Pelham 123'.

As well as this, he worked close together with his brother in producing the CBS dramas 'The Good Wife' and 'NUMB3ERS.' His trademark was a red baseball cap, which he was often seen wearing.

Interestingly enough, in his adolescence, the British movie director wished to become a painter. Later on, he thought about doing documentaries. Thus, it was only after his brother, Ridley Scott, gave him a “gentle” push – he promised to buy him a Ferrari – that he turned towards movies.

Down below, you have the official trailers for 'Top Gun' and 'The Taking of Pelham 123,' for those who feel like reminiscing Tony Scott's work.
