Shanghai Animation Film Studio is suing Apple in China alleging that the iPhone maker has sold several of its movies, without permission, on the iTunes Store. The film studio is seeking modest monetary compensation, and wants to keep details away from the press.

A senior executive at Shanghai Animation said, “We want to keep tight-lipped on this case because, as we see it, it's just a litigation in which we want to get compensation [for our product].”

“It's a sensitive period now since Apple is a big multinational company and it is surrounded by controversies on its practices in China,” the executive added.

According to the report, Shanghai Animation Film Studio is known for producing an animated version of The Monkey King, as well as various other titles, including titles Calabash Brothers and Black Cat Detective.

The lawsuit targets Apple and its Chinese subsidiary, Apple Electronics Products Commerce (Beijing). The suit is an IP infringement litigation regarding sales of around 110 of Shanghai Animation’s movies without permission, including two of the aforementioned films.
