The accessory utilizes the unused 5.25” hard drive bays

Normally, when people buy a PC, they go for whatever components they can scramble, but one trend that seems to be consistent anywhere is the tendency of purchasing a single, good storage unit. This means that end-users will mostly buy a high-capacity hard or solid-state drive in order to remove the need for powering multiple devices. This usually leads to several hard drive bays remaining empty 'forever.'

To take advantage of that empty space, Scythe put together the Kama Cabinet, a brand-new accessory, which, when mounted inside the 5.25” bays, provides users with storage space for optical disks (CDs, DVDs,) and other computer-related items or gadgets, such as USB sticks, unused hard drives, solid-state drives or MP3 players. The integrated soft tray can accommodate about 16 CD or DVD media and the cabinet is outfitted with splitter plates, which divide the internal space for an easier management.

The accessory measures 190 x 146 x 41,3 mm (7.48 x 5.75 x 1.63 in) and weighs 275 g (9.7 oz). It may come in different versions in order to fit with the color of each end-user's casing. Among the options are Kama Cabinets made of silver aluminum (KC01 - ASL - 5), black aluminum (KC01 - ABK - 5), black plastic (KC01 - PBK - 5) and black metal mesh (KC01 - MBK - 5).

This release is, in a way, coincidentally conceptually opposite to Evercool's recently released Armor Hard Disk case-mounted cooler, which is specifically aimed at multiple hard-drive scenarios. Whereas the Armor fills and secures the space so that nothing except air may go in, the Kama 'slices' the same space into several sections, offering different usability options.

The Kama Cabinet can be purchased for an MSRP of 6.50 Euro (MSRP, excl. VAT) or for an MSRP (excl. TAX) of US$ 8.75.
