Following a leak earlier this week, Apple subsidiary FileMaker, Inc. has announced the release of FileMaker 13, the new database software for Mac and Windows customers.

Enabling users to create custom business solutions for iPad, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and the web, FileMaker Pro 13 promises to “deliver significant productivity gains.”

Adding more than 50 new features, FileMaker 13 comes with a new HTML5 browser-based technology called WebDirect that “allows teams to create and deploy desktop-style solutions in a web browser with no programming skills required.”

Buyers also get slide controls, popovers, and the ability to scan records using gestures for iPhone and iPad solutions, with one-step creation for layouts, single-click capture of bar codes, and more.

The design component adds support for shareable custom themes and styles, as well as the ability to drag and drop data fields.

Security is enhanced with AES 256-bit encryption, and developers are promised “dozens of new enhancements [...] from the ability to hide or display objects on a screen based on business logic to easier integration with web applications.”
