14 DAY TRIAL // Decision making just got easier with Filemaker Go 1.2.1 for iPhone and iPad, according to the Apple-owned FileMaker Inc. who has announced new updates for users of its Go apps.
“Tackle any task on your iPhone with FileMaker Go. Close sales deals on the road, manage project status while traveling, organize research notes in the field, or check inventory in the warehouse – all while you’re on the go,” reads the description for FileMaker Go.
An update bringing both the iPhone and the iPad apps to version 1.2.1 adds support for FileMaker Charts (compatible with FileMaker Pro 11), records and saves signatures to the database file, and adds support for printing.
The new release also improves rendering, display, and printing of PDFs, and can send notifications to users when there is a record lock conflict.
Finally, the developers also tout the new ability to open hidden files and resolved compatibility issues when running on iPhone and iPad.
For those planning to pick up on FileMaker Go, there are a few things to outline.
First of all, the service requires FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Pro Advanced to create or modify databases.
FileMaker Go only opens databases created using FileMaker Pro 11, 10, 9, 8.5, 8 and 7; FileMaker Pro Advanced 11, 10, 9, 8.5, and 8; and FileMaker Developer 7. The makers recently dropped support for software versions prior to FileMaker 9.
The developer can only vow for FileMaker Go connecting to databases hosted by FileMaker Server 11 and 10/Server 11 and 10 Advanced and FileMaker Pro 11 and 10/Pro 11 and 10 Advanced.
According to them, connecting to previous versions of the software has not been tested.
To accessing hosted files, users are required to have their iPhone or iPad directly connect to FileMaker Server/Server Advanced or FileMaker Pro/Pro Advanced. Existing firewalls must also be disabled.
Lastly, synchronization is not supported. However, users can copy or email database files between the device and the desktop.
FileMaker Inc. also announced a special offer for those who purchase FileMaker Go for iPhone. For these customers, FileMaker Pro 11 is 50%. The offer expires June 17, 2011.
