He might not be Britney, but he can still rock, he says

Johnny Weir, three-time US National Champion, 12th figure skater in the world, as ranked by the International Skating Union, and future author, is looking to branch out by adding one more thing on his already impressive resume. The skater, who has often made headlines for his flamboyant style both on ice and on the party circuit, is about to head to the studio and record a single, People magazine informs.

The mag got to speak with Weir just recently, who personally confirmed the report. He is aware he is far from what a singer should be but, he says, if he’s to record just one song in his life, he wants it to be a huge hit. Plus, he’s been working on his voice with a trainer and he certainly has the money to get the best people in the industry to work with him – as such, he actually stands good chances of coming out with a chart topper.

“The three-time U.S. champion – who recently declared war with fellow skater Evan Lysacek – has been keeping very busy off the ice. ‘I’m going to record a song in May, just for fun,’ Weir, 25, told People at the Ice Theater of New York, where he opened the season on April 29. ‘I know I’m not a legitimate, real singer, but I can still rock it like Britney.’ The song, called ‘Dirty Love,’ came about when a producer approached him after the Olympics, and Weir’s got big dreams for it,” People magazine writes.

The star would not give out more details on his upcoming endeavor though, saying only that he hoped he would be asked to sing it at the Video Music Awards. “I’ve been working a lot on my voice – if I only do one song in my life, I want it to be a huge success. My main goal is to perform it at the VMAs. I want to come out on a little circle of ice from underneath the stage or something crazy like that!” Weir says with notable enthusiasm.

In the same interview, Weir says he is uncertain about his future as a figure skater, but vouches to use his “15 minutes of fame,” as he puts it, to give it his best shot at a long-lasting career. His upcoming book, out in January next year, would fit in this larger scheme of things, while also presenting him with the opportunity to tell his side of the story with honesty.
