The case of the MMA athlete War Machine has captured the attention of the media and made the rounds in news because it was extremely brutal and it almost killed his former girlfriend Christy Mack and her friend Corey Thomas.

The violent offender was caught by police after a short manhunt and incarcerated, awaiting trial after he was accused of attempted murder of Christy Mack and Corey Thomas. At the moment, he's in jail in Las Vegas.

War Machine tried to asphyxiate himself with a piece of linen tied to his bed

TMZ reports that War Machine tried to commit suicide on Tuesday night, by basically hanging himself in his cell. By all accounts, on Tuesday night, War Machine was sitting in bed in his cell in Clark County Jail.

A correction officer was making his rounds when he passed by the fighter's cell's door. The officer says he saw him sitting on the ground with his feet elevated on the bunk bed. He called out to him, but War Machine didn't answer.

Thinking that something was wrong, the guard entered the cell and discovered that the fighter had tied a piece of linen around his neck and then attached the other end to the end of the bed. He had been attempting to end his life for some time because his face was purple by the time the guard found him.

The officer then quickly cut the linen and removed it, at which point War Machine's breathing normalized and he gained back some color in his face. The officer reports that he then tried to say something but was unable.

The former athlete is now in a hospital cell on suicide watch

The fighter was moved in a medical isolation cell and is confirmed to be on suicide watch at the moment. The source claims that they even found a suicide note in his cell, indicating that he would have indeed ended his life had he not been found in time by the guard.

War Machine is still awaiting trial for the very serious accusation of attempted murder of his adult actress ex-girlfriend, Christy Mack. He stormed into her house on August 8 and found her together with friend Corey Thomas. He then proceeded to beating her viciously, leading to fears that she might not survive her injuries. She has since fully recovered.

War Machine pleaded not guilty to all 32 charges on September 3 in a Las Vegas court, denying any of the accusations made, including multiple counts of battery, strangulation, kidnapping, coercion, burglary and molestation.
