Fight for Your Video Games!

- Gamers are teaming up with website to fight for the freedom of speech

By: Calin Ciabai, Games Editor

An US website created "for American gamers to organize and defend against threats to video games" has started the fight against the government's decisions that could influence the gaming industry in a bad way and are trying to make everybody understand that the freedom of speech is the biggest right of them all.
Therefore, they have created a really cool way for gamers to express their feelings and show their support to game developers and producers, with a campaign whose motto could be easily summarized as "Leave my games alone!".

They say that, since games are being threatened by legislation on the federal, state and local level, it is time for gamers to stand up and voice their concerns. They have created a so called Wall of Protest, where every gamer can have his photo published, as long as it has a solid message aimed at the Entertainment Software Rating Board and individuals or organizations who support the censoring of video games. And some of the messages there are really nice, as well as the pictures. Here are only a few examples of what the gamers said: "Ban ALL violent movies and TV shows -or- LEAVE MY GAMES ALONE!!!!!!", "Education, not regulation, is the solution" or "Leave us alone! Why should sane adult gamers have to pay for bad parenting and misguided children?".

One of the real "threats" the website is fighting against is the bill in Massachusetts which aims to criminalize the sale and rental of violent video games to minors (click here for the full story about this problem). According to the website, the bill is not only "unnecessary and unconstitutional" but it will also "cost Massachusetts taxpayers thousands of dollars and in the end will accomplish nothing." And one thing I truly agree with and most of the so called "game haters" seem to forget is the fact that as long movies, books and music have a complete freedom of speech, there is no reason games should be treated otherwise.

So if you agree with this point of view and would like to see your beloved video games treated as they should, pay a visit to VideogameVoters and send your message for the world. Also, feel free to share your opinions here, too.
