14 DAY TRIAL // Sony, which has just released its free to play MMO Free Realms to the public, is announcing that those who join up to play another of its MMOs, DC Universe Online, have a chance to meet and fight none other than the destroyer of Superman, the Kryptonian Doomsday.
This is just one of the heroes and villains taken directly from DC Comics set to make appearances in the Sony created MMO that should arrive on the PlayStation 3 and the PC (with a slim but real possibility of cross platform play).
Why is Doomsday an important addition to DC Universe Online? Well, he is one of Superman's most powerful and hated nemeses. He was born, as the Man of Steel, on the planet Krypton, at one moment in its existence when only the strong could survive. He is the Darwinian nightmare, a creature that has survived only by learning to hate all other living things, and that has evolved so that it can kill all competitors. With his arrival on Earth, this includes taking out all the citizens of Metropolis after first destroying their most powerful and beloved hero, Superman.
Doomsday is also important because other big players in the DC universe, like Lex Luthor, are interested in capturing the powerful creature and using it to dominate the world. The machinations of Luthor and Doomsday's obsession of Superman are set to feature heavily in the story lines created by the writers from DC in the MMO.
In DC Universe Online, you cannot choose to play as Superman or any other super hero that has already appeared in the pages of comics, but you can certainly create a whole new hero in order to fight super villains such as Lex Luthor or Doomsday. We're looking forward to doing this once DC Universe Online is launched later in the year.
