Christian Grey would not approve of such behavior

Universal Pictures’ highly anticipated “Fifty Shades of Grey” opened in theaters worldwide on Friday, just in time to set the mood for Valentine’s Day. As expected, it delivered an impressive box office gross on its opening weekend, but the premiere was not without some incidents.

Perhaps the most serious occurred at a theater in Glasgow, Scotland, ending with 3 adult women in handcuffs - but not in the way the film’s male protagonist, Christian Grey, would rather he had his leading lady Anastasia Steele.

Women get drunk, cause a ruckus in the theater

“Fifty Shades of Grey” the movie is based on the first novel in a very successful trilogy by E.L. James. It tells the story of a millionaire (Grey) who falls for a virgin college graduate (Steele) but is not yet ready to deal with all these feelings. So, instead, he asks her to enter into a BDSM relationship with him, with her as his submissive.

The film plays down all the racy aspects in the book, coming across as a typical romantic movie, of sorts. Still, theater owners knew to expect trouble from some members of the moviegoing public, so certain establishments in the UK even sent out warnings to female readers of the books to please leave at home whips, handcuffs and ropes.

The 3 ladies who were arrested at the Grosvenor Cinema didn’t carry any of these, but they were still so belligerent that they actually jumped at a man who asked them to keep it down during the screening, The Telegraph reports.

They have not been identified to the press, but police have confirmed the arrest, saying they were aged 31, 38 and 51 and visibly intoxicated because the theater is one where they also serve alcohol at the concession stand.

All hell broke loose

The women were booked for alleged disorder offenses and alleged assault. Despite initial reports that one of the three had glassed the man, leaving a bloody gash that made a mess in the venue, police deny that anyone needed medical assistance after the altercation. The man is believed to be ok.

“There were also several incredibly drunk women vomiting in the aisle and corridor and several complaints from the other screen about drunk and rowdy folk,” a moviegoer reveals for the same publication.

That is, besides the 3 drunk women who tried to beat up a guy for telling them to stop making noise during the screening. The report adds that these were loaded into the police car with handcuffs on their wrists - definitely not how they must have imagined a night at the movies would end.
