Subatomic Studios, the company behind the highly-successful Fieldrunners title for the iOS platform, has just announced that availability of Fieldrunners HD for Android.

The application can be downloaded for free for the first 24 hours in the Amazon Appstore, while Android users who do not live in the United States can grab the game for $1 for the first day in the Android Market.

After the first 24 hours promo, Fieldrunners HD will be available in both stores for $2.99.

In addition, Fieldrunners HD will be available to Android users living in Unites States in the Android Market two weeks after its initial launch.

It appears that the developers had intended to release Fieldrunners HD for free in the Android Market, but given Google's agreement that prohibits developers from launching a game for free then transitioning it to paid, this wasn't possible.

Luckily, the guys over at Subatomic Studios have been approached by Amazon and agreed for a two-week exclusivity collaboration in exchange for allowing Fieldrunners HD to launch for free in the Amazon Appstore.

Amazon and Google have been very helpful. Releasing in the Amazon Appstore in the US while simultaneously launching in the Android Market for international customers is something we are very excited about. Hitting both marketplaces in the same day allows us to reach our whole, international fan base and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of both Amazon and Google,” said Jamie Gotch, CEO of Subatomic Studios.

Fieldrunners HD is a tower defense mobile game that features and high-definition graphics.

The gameplay is simple and addictive and challenges players to defend their base and control the field using a diverse selection of upgradeable towers.

While playing the campaign mode, players will have to master a wide array of tactics and strategies to help them stand victorious against countless waves of unique land and air combatants.
