The smartphone is scheduled for an Ice Cream Sandwich update as well

It appears that Canadian carrier Fido is rolling out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus 2X. The smartphone was released at Fido back in August with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, but the Korean handset maker promised the Gingerbread upgrade at launch.

Although the update is available later than expected, LG Optimus 2X owners should be happy that the phone was also promised the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, which is slated for a 2012 release.

Fido customers who own an ‘untempered’ (read unrooted) LG Optimus 2X can download and install the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update via LG Mobile Update tool.

LG officially confirmed plans to release Gingerbread for the Optimus 2X, Optimus Black and Optimus 3D, but the handset maker did not reveal any of the exact release dates for these updates.
