The emails look legitimate, but they contain a malicious attachment

Internet users are advised to be on the lookout for a series of malicious emails that allegedly come from a legitimate company called Fidelity Investment, informing recipients that their tax statements are ready.

Trend Micro researchers identified the attachment that comes with the email as a variant of the Zbot spyware.

While a good antivirus solution can protect your computer in case you mistakenly open the attachment, take a look at a part of the email so you can identify it in case you spot it in your inbox.

The phony email reads:

Dear, Thank you for choosing to receive your statement through eDelivery. Your latest statement is now available for your review and attached to this email message. Your 2011 tax forms will be mailed from early January through February 15. You may also request a paper copy of your statement at no charge by calling Fidelity at [phone number].
