Developer Polytron Corporation has announced that its 3D but still 2D platformer Fez will be making its way to all of Sony's platforms on March 25.

The quirky indie platformer Fez certainly had a tumultuous development, being initially revealed in 2007 and becoming one of the most well-known indie titles out there but only materializing in April of 2012.

It was featured in the 2012 documentary Indie Game: The Movie alongside Super Meat Boy, and after selling more than one million units at the end of 2013, creator Phil Fish has announced leaving the industry due to its toxic nature.

Fez is a puzzle platformer set in a 3D world, where the two-dimensional character Gomez bears witness to a magical cube breaking down and tearing the fabric of his universe. He stumbles upon a magical fez that reveals the world's third dimension and allows him to rotate the 2D world 90 degrees left or right, revealing the 4 different views of his world that he must now navigate in order to piece the cube together and save the universe.

Fez's puzzles are mainly built around finding new paths through the environment by making use of Gomez's newfound powers and around the discovery of various hidden warp gates, obelisks and many other weird items, seemingly belonging to an ancient civilization that attempted to make sense of the nature of their world.

The emphasis is not on dexterity and twitchy platforming, but rather on patience and exploration of the gorgeous pixelated vistas, with many throwbacks to the consecrated titles of the 8-bit gaming era.

The game is already available on Xbox 360, PC, Linux and Mac, and Polytron's latest announcement soon places the little platformer that could on the PS3, PS4 and PS Vita, reaching a wider and all-new audience.

The devs said that the PlayStation versions of Fez will be some of the best yet, and that PlayStation 4 fans are in for "a particularly smooth ride." The PS Vita variant will be the first portable version of the game.

The actual porting work was undertaken by Blitworks, a company specializing in translating games to all platforms, who most recently brought Age of Zombies HD to the PS Vita and the incredibly popular Spelunky to the PS Vita and PS3.

Fez will be launched on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita platforms on March 25, and no pricing information is yet available.
