It’s February 1, so it’s the time for another batch of statistics provided by Net Applications. Unfortunately for Microsoft’s modern operating system, they are barely increasing their market share, so while Windows 8.1 managed to boost its number of users, Windows 8 continued the decline.

At this point, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 are holding a combined market share of 10.58 percent, which represents only a minor boost as compared to figures recorded last month.

Windows 7, on the other hand, continues to lead the charts with 47.49 percent, while Windows XP is second with 29.23 percent.

Windows Vista, often described as Microsoft’s biggest flop in history, is now fifth in the top with only 3.30 percent, as more users are finally upgrading to newer versions of Windows.

Non-Microsoft operating systems are far behind in the desktop race, with Mac OS X 10.9 holding a share of 3.20 percent, followed by Linux with 1.60 percent.
