Fernando Alonso is Not Worried about the Title Race

The Spaniard urged his team, though, to make it up to him during next week's Hungarian GP

Fernando Alonso is not too worried about Michael Schumacher's incredible comeback in the championship race. At one point, it seemed almost impossible for anyone to have a shot at the title but the Spaniard. Three races after and the Renault driver found himself just 11 points clear of his German rival. And his team did not help him very much in these last 3 races either. The tyres pick and a slow car were just some of the things that made him lose 14 points in the last 3 races to Michael
Schumacher.
Still, the Spaniard is not very concerned for the future. At least that's what he says. He stated that his team will try to make it up to him in Hungary and that the 4-week break afterwards will help Renault recover in terms of tyres performances and car stability.

"I'm not worried as far as I'm in front of him. But it's true that if we keep going like this, in three or four races we will be equal in points and this is not good for me. It's true with this result that it is easy to say this would affect the car but I'm totally sure in Hungary we will be back with the right set-up, right tyre and forget the dampers. We were not competitive this weekend, but I did the maximum I could and so did the team", said Alonso after the race.

Of course, the tyres were another strong argument for his team's failure. Renault are certainly seeking a better arrangement from their French tyre suppliers, Michelin. Now that the race for both constructors' and drivers' standings is more interesting than ever, Michelin will have to prove that they can leave the Grand Circle with their heads up, beating Bridgestone in the last 6 races of the championship.

If not, Alonso might lose the 2006 title. And, as Ferrari is going right now, that seems like a decent possibility. Renault has only one week to build up a great strategy and a competitive car, so that the Hungarian GP will not deepen the fall in the standings.
