Rachel Held Evans sets to publish A Year of Biblical Womanhood, a book that documents her experience living for a year as a devout Christian woman, with all that it entails.

According to the Daily Mail, Evans, a 31-year-old Tennessee-based blogger, tried to dress modestly, let her hair grow and submit to her husband, as well as follow any other commandment she could possibly find for women, in the Old and New Testament.

The book should set light on a lot of feminist and Christian fundamentalist issues.

“Some of these experiences were funny, others were rewarding, and others were terrible,” Evans says.

Following Proverbs 31:22, she started making her own clothes, and even learned how to cook, as instructed by Titus 2:3-5. These could be considered pros, as they encourage personal growth, self-reliability and even creativity.

However, some of the outdated rules she obeyed send out the message that women are denied said growth, and are considered lesser beings in Christian writings.

Leviticus Chapters 15 to 18 has an entire section about what women should do, but touches most on a woman's behavior and social interaction during menstruation.

That time of the month, for each of the twelve months, Rachel stayed home from church and carried around a seat cushion everywhere she went, so that she wouldn't sit on any chair outside her home.

She would sleep in the back yard, in a tent, for the duration of the most difficult period of the month for her. As well as ostracizing her as if her period makes her “untouchable,” as if it were a condition isolating her from family and society, the prevision also puts a woman at risk of catching a cold and actually getting sick.

Every morning, she woke up before dawn, as instructed by Proverbs 31:15. As written in 1 Peter 3:5-6, she even started to call her husband “master.”
