Did Tom Cruise recruit another volunteer for the Scientology Church? Ever since Keri Russell signed a contract with Paramount Pictures to star in Mission: Imposible 3, it looks like 'Felicity' has suddenly become very interested in Cruise's religion and very eager to learn from the master.
Keri has been spotted buying Scientology books and she has visited the sect's L.A. Celebrity Center. Russell's publicist declared Keri is on "hiatus" and she can not comment the rumor.
Meanwhile, it looks like Paramount isn't so happy with Tom's mission to convert people to Scientology.
"Paramount is terrified that it will be deluged with lawsuits from extras, caterers, and actors who will say that they were coerced into Scientology on the set," an insider told reporters.
"Tom is not passive about having those tents set up. On the War of the Worlds set, he directed people to them and often asked them to talk out their issues in the Scientology tent."
On the other hand, Cruise feels like he's restricted by Paramount due to his religion.
"Tom is pissed that Paramount is going head to head with him over these issues," says another studio insider.
"He really feels he is helping people and that Paramount is trying to prevent him from doing that. But they just want their movie made, they don't want to be involved in all this other crap", the source added.
But Paramount officials as well as Cruise's publicist and sister, Lee Anne De Vette, stated there was no problem with Cruise or the Scientology volunteers.
"Tom's been working with the studio for years and they have a great relationship. There's no friction. That's a crock of (expletive)," said De Vette.
"Tom received a lot of letters from people who had assists thanking him, and there are a lot of people who didn't have them, too. If you don't want them, don't have them! It's like the coffee he brings onset. If you don't want coffee, don't have the coffee!"
