Feedly is currently the number one replacement for Google Reader, but the service still needs a number of improvements before really becoming a full-featured alternative.

The company behind the project has announced an update cycle that’s going to include not only speed improvements and pure web access, but also support for Windows Phone and Windows 8.

While the concept of a Windows 8 app providing access to Feedly’s services isn’t quite new, this is the first time when the company confirms it, even though no specifics have been provided.

Given the fact that Google Reader will officially go dark on July 1, expect the Windows 8 app to be released in the coming months, especially because the Softies are getting ready to introduce a new version of its operating system.
