Federal authorities from the US have arrested three individuals and charged 6 others for their alleged involvement in a drug ring believed to be responsible for distributing cocaine in Italy and the United States. The criminal organization is also accused of trafficking methamphetamine across the US.

According to the LA Times, authorities busted the ring after intercepting their phone calls, text messages and the messages they sent via BlackBerry Messenger (BBM).

Around 40 kilograms of cocaine smuggled into Italy from Mexico and the Dominican Republic have been seized in the operation dubbed “Operation Family Guy.”

The indictment also alleges that crooks used Western Union wire transfers to launder the money they made from the drugs traffic.

27-year-old Rafael Urena of Rancho Cucamonga has been arrested, but his brother, Milton Urena, 30, remains a fugitive. The two are said to be the masterminds of the operation.

Two other suspects are also on the run.
