Get ready for the upcoming FUDCons!

As we're getting ready to welcome the new Fedora 9, let's have a look at what happened over this past week in the Fedora World. Max Spevack posted a reminder about the upcoming FUDCons and Jeroen van Meeuwen let us know that Fedora Unity has released Fedora 8 updated Re-Spin.

The Re-Spin, announced by Jeroen van Meeuwen, comes in CD and DVD ISO sets, and is based on the officially released Fedora 8 Installation media with all the updates until May 1st, 2008 included. The ISOs are available for i386, x86_64 and PPC architectures.

Max Spevack reminded everyone about the 3 FUDCons (Fedora User and Developer Conference) that are coming up and suggested people signed up to attend. The first one will take place in Berlin, is more of a mini-FUDCon, and it is a part of LinuxTag (an event that will run from 28th to 31st May).

19th - 21st June: FUDCon Boston 2008, will take place in conjunction with the Red Hat Summit, and in September 2008, a FUDCon is scheduled to take place in Prague, although it is still in early planning phases.

Also, this week we had a surprise, when a DVD ISO of Fedora 9 - still in development at that time - got out on some of the Fedora mirrors. Unfortunately, a couple of sites dubbed it as the final release and I'm very sure people have started downloading the ISO, which could create problems to everyone.

To make sure that Fedora 9 was not re-scheduled, we contacted Mr. Paul Frields, who told us that this was a technical problem with the release candidate (which may NOT end up as the final release). The leak was incomplete for many locations and, if you tried to install the distro, you might have had a bad experience with Fedora. Please, from now on, check with the official sites and in case you are unsure of something, contact a developer or someone involved in the project. Also, those of you who tried this incomplete release: do not whine about Fedora 9! It is YOUR mistake for getting a development release and no one else's fault!

The security advisories for the week were as following:
