The Fedora 9 Alpha release - codename Sulphur - was launched last week, providing the first opportunity for a broader audience to become involved in the testing of Rawhide. John Babich reminded everyone that on 9 February, 1998,
Bruce Perens published the Open Source Definition. This year would be the tenth since its publishing, and the beginning of the "Decade One", as Bruce Perens considers. He says that as we enter "Decade One" "Free Software / Open Source is mainstream. Indeed, we are the leader in many business computing categories."

You surely know the Fedora Store SIG, founded by Max Spevack as a medium for solving two majors problems: provide an easy way for Fedora users and contributors to buy Fedora merchandise and help the Fedora Ambassadors find vendors that are near them, and can help fill bulk orders for events they attend. It will go through an update, which has started, in a slow but sure pace. Now, there is an Ambassador Vendors in the wiki to help ambassadors find a vendor in their area. Another new thing is a long list of potential items that people might want to see.

Fedora's Art Team, after a short debate, decided to extend the Round 2 for one more week, with the deadline on 12th February. Some of the artists took advantage of this new deadline and updated their work. I've noticed some good artwork, but too bad that the users are not so enthusiastic. I only found seven themes submitted, but their number might increase in time. You can take a look at them here. You could submit your own theme, if you want to do that.

The security advisories available this week for Fedora 7 are:

■ openldap-2.3.34-6.fc7
■ gnumeric-1.6.3-14.fc7
■ tk-8.4.13-7.fc7
■ perl-Tk-804.028-3.fc7

Let's see those for Fedora 8:

■ gnumeric-1.6.3-14.fc8
■ perl-Tk-804.028-3.fc8
■ kernel-2.6.23.14-115.fc8
