Good Bye, Fedora Core 6!

We've already had an Ubuntu Weekly Report and we thought we should take a shot with Fedora as well. So, here we are with the first issue of our weekly report! Read on and find out more about Fedora!

Last week brought a lot of changes with it in the Fedora world. Let's see what exactly happened between 10th - 16th December, shall we?

Although Fedora Core 6 reached its end of line, there will still be Samba security updates for it, thanks to a developer called Simo Sorce that decided to release new packages for FC6, so everyone who has not yet migrated to newer supported Fedora releases can buy some more time.

It seems that not only Ubuntu can be installed on PS3, but Fedora also. Yesterday, on December 16th, Josh Boyer managed to install Fedora 8 on his Playstation 3, with a very simple workaround. By specifying "xdriver=fbdev" on the command line, PS3 will boot the Fedora DVD just fine, and the installation will start in text mode.

Max Spevack, the person who led the Fedora project for two years, will resign from his current position, but will move on to other Fedora-related challenges. The Fedora Project Leader is a full time Red Hat position, so the search for a new leader has started.

This week, new bugfixes and updates for Fedora 7 and 8 were made. Let's see what the developers did for Fedora 7:

■ samba-3.0.28-0.fc7 ■ phpMyAdmin-2.11.3-1.fc7 ■ eggdrop-1.6.18-12.fc7 ■ xorg-x11-xfs-1.0.5-1.fc7 ■ autofs-5.0.1-29 ■ mysql-5.0.45-6.fc7 ■ squid-2.6.STABLE16-2.fc7 ■ libxfcegui4-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ xfce-utils-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ xfce-mcs-plugins-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ exo-0.3.4-1.fc7 ■ libxfce4mcs-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ Terminal-0.2.8-2.fc7 ■ xfce4-modemlights-plugin-0.1.3.99-2.fc7 ■ xfce4-places-plugin-1.0.0-2.fc7 ■ xfce4-fsguard-plugin-0.4.0-2.fc7 ■ xfce4-sensors-plugin-0.10.99.2-3.fc7 ■ xfdesktop-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ Thunar-0.9.0-2.fc7 ■ xfwm4-themes-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ xfce4-notes-plugin-1.6.0-2.fc7 ■ xfce4-weather-plugin-0.6.2-2.fc7 ■ xfce4-cpugraph-plugin-0.4.0-2.fc7 ■ xfwm4-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ xfce4-session-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ xfce4-panel-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ libxfce4util-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ orage-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ thunar-volman-0.2.0-1.fc7 ■ xfce4-mixer-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ mousepad-0.2.13-1.fc7 ■ xfprint-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ xfce4-appfinder-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ xfce4-icon-theme-4.4.2-1.fc7 ■ gtk-xfce-engine-2.4.2-1.fc7 ■ xfce-mcs-manager-4.4.2-1.fc7
