Jeremy Katz from Red Hat has announced today that Fedora Core 5 will be delayed "as usual" until 20th March.

"Due to circumstances outside of our control, we're going to be unable to keep to the scheduled date of March 15th for the release of FC5 and instead are going to have to make the release date Monday, March 20th. While unfortunate in some ways, this gives us the opportunity to pull in the final GNOME 2.14 tarballs which should be available on Monday assuming the changes are suitably minor.

It's a good thing they delayed it, because we will have the final GNOME 2.14 scheduled for release on 15th March, next Wednesday. I think this is the best thing to do. Anyway I was pretty sure that Fedora Core 5 will suffer a delay, but having the latest GNOME stable in it it's not a bad thing.

Fedora Core 5 will bring many new things and improvements. Some noticeable features are: - Kernel 2.6.15 - KDE 3.5 - GNOME 2.14 - X.org 7.0 - GCC 4.1 - Qt 4

A very important new entry in Fedora Core 5 is the Mono package that was very expected and will be most welcomed by many Fedora users. Anaconda has also changed, new look and the new Fedora logo is all over it! I think this will make installation easier than ever for newbies.

Too bad that the brand new OpenOffice 2.0.2 will not be in, but we will have it after the first update.
