Today we're continuing our screenshot tour articles for the Fedora 22 Linux operating system with the MATE/Compiz edition, which is not as known as the Fedora 22 Workstation, Fedora 22 KDE, Fedora 22 Xfce, or Fedora 22 LXDE flavors.

Fedora 22 MATE/Compiz is an official Spin of the Fedora 22 Linux operating system that is built around the lightweight MATE desktop environment and using Compiz for desktop effects and Emerald as a window manager.

The new release of the MATE/Compiz Edition of Fedora 22 Linux comes with updated software packages and lots of under-the-hood improvements when compared to the Beta milestone of the Spin.

"Fedora spins are alternative versions of Fedora, tailored for various types of users via hand-picked application sets or customizations" was stated in the official release announcement for Fedora 22 Linux.

Built around the MATE 1.10.0 desktop environment

The first thing we noticed when running the Fedora 22 MATE/Compiz Live CD was that it is built around the MATE 1.10.0 desktop environment, the latest and greatest version of the acclaimed project that offers many improvements and new features.

The software selection of the MATE/Compiz Spin of Fedora 22 Linux is really great. Besides the usual MATE apps, such as Caja, pluma, Engrampa, Eye of MATE, Atril, and MATE Terminal, we can find a lot of useful and popular applications.

Among these, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, Filezilla file transfer client, LibreOffice office suite, Claws Mail email client, Audacious music player, Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, HexChat IRC client, and Transmission torrent downloader.

Download Fedora 22 MATE/Compiz Edition right now via Softpedia or directly from the Fedora Project website, where you will find Live DVD ISO images for both 32- and 64-bit hardware architectures.
