Fedora Project had the great pleasure of announcing the general availability of the Fedora 22 Linux operating system a while ago, as reported by Softpedia at the end of May 2015.

Today we're continuing our Fedora 22 screenshot tour series with the LXDE Edition, which, as you might have already guessed, is built around the LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) project.

Therefore, we can safely declare the LXDE edition the most lightweight Fedora 22 flavor. It offers a traditional desktop layout and was designed from the offset to be deployed on computers with old and semi-old hardware components (low-end machines).

As expected, Fedora 22 LXDE Edition comes with lightweight, open-source apps, such as the Midori web browser, Yum Extender graphical package manager, Pidgin instant messenger, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, Asunder Audio-CD ripper, and GnomeBaker CD/DVD burning software.

You can replace LXDE with LXQt in Fedora 22 Linux

If you're a fan of the next-generation LXQt desktop environment, we recommend installing the latest, next-generation version of the lightweight user interface from the official software repositories of Fedora 22, so just use the dnf groupinstall lxqt command.

"LXQt is the Qt port and the upcoming version of LXDE, the Lightweight Desktop Environment. It is the product of the merge between the LXDE-Qt and the Razor-qt projects. Version 0.9.0 of this desktop environment is available in Fedora 22," reads the release notes of Fedora 22 Linux.

Download Fedora 22 LXDE right now Softpedia or via the Fedora Project website, where you will find Live DVD ISO images and torrent files for both 32- and 64-bit hardware architectures.
