Fedora Project had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download and testing of the Beta version of the forthcoming Fedora 22 Linux computer operating system, as reported by Softpedia a couple of days ago. We're continuing our Fedora 22 Beta screenshot tour series with the LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) edition.

Fedora 22 Beta LXDE is a lightweight, yet traditional flavor of the acclaimed Linux kernel-based operating system sponsored by Red Hat, designed from the ground up to be deployed on low-end machines or computers with old and semi-old hardware components. The new release introduces a number of improvements, updates packages, and various bugfixes discovered since the Alpha version.

"The Beta release contains all the exciting features of Fedora 22’s editions in a form that anyone can help test," says the Fedora Linux developers. "Together, we can make Fedora rock-solid. We have a culture of coordinating new features and pushing fixes upstream as much as feasible, and your feedback will help improve not only Fedora but Linux and free software on the whole."

Some of the pre-installed apps have been updated to their latest versions

As expected with each new release of an operating system, some of the pre-installed applications have been updated to their latest versions. Among these, we can mention Midori 0.5.9 web browser, Yum Extender 3.0.16, Pidgin 2.10.11 instant messenger, AbiWord 3.0.1 word processor, Gnumeric 1.12.20 spreadsheet editor, Asunder 2.5 Audio-CD ripper, and GnomeBaker 0.6.4 CD/DVD burning software.

You can download Fedora 22 Beta LXDE right now Softpedia or via the Fedora Project website, where you will find Live DVD ISO images for both 64- and 32-bit computer platforms. However, when testing the operating system, please keep in mind that it is a pre-release version that might contain unresolved issues, so we don't recommend installing it on production machines where stability is very important.
