Faster boot times, better wireless support

Jesse Keating has just announced a few minutes ago the immediate availability of Fedora 10 Preview release. "The Fedora Project is proud to announce the availability of the Fedora 10 Preview Release. The Fedora 10 Preview Release is our last pre-release offering before we let everyone taste the goods for real." - said Jesse in the official release announcement.

Dubbed Cambridge, Fedora 10 Preview offers a faster boot experience (with the help of Plymouth), better printing, improved wireless network connection sharing, better software maintenance and update (with the help of PackageKit and RPM 4.6), virtualization storage, and adds a new security tool for IDS (Intrusion Detection System) called SecTool. The development cycle of Fedora 10 will conclude with the final release somewhere at the end of November 2008. Below are some of the highlights of Fedora 10:

• Linux kernel 2.6.27 (with improved webcam and WiFi support); • GNOME 2.24; • KDE 4.1; • Eclipse 3.4; • RPM 4.6; • Faster boot; • An enhanced version of the PackageKit package manager; • An updated PulseAudio sound server; • Improved Apple Macintosh hardware support; • Improved HDTV support in X.Org; • A new icon theme called Echo; • Remote virtualization.

The Fedora 10 Release Schedule:

August 5th, 2008 - Fedora 10 Alpha release September 30th, 2008 - Fedora 10 Beta release November 4th, 2008 - Fedora 10 Preview release November 25th, 2008 - Fedora 10 Final release

Fedora 10 will be available as GNOME and KDE Live CD editions for 32bit and 64bit platforms, and the usual DVD edition.
