Maybe Britney Spears wanted her divorce to be at least as quiet and quick as her wedding ceremony has been, but her soon-to-be-ex-husband is not willing to let go that easily. A few days after Spears unexpectedly filed for divorce, apparently letting K-Fed know of her decision via text messages on his phone, Federline filed the court papers for sole custody of the two children.
As of yesterday, rumor had it that the aspiring rapper would get out of the marriage almost empty-handed and there was some speculation as to him attacking Britney's plea for complete physical and legal custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James. Some magazines were also claiming that Kevin had made up his mind about divorce since almost a year ago, but he lingered on in the hope that he would get more money out of Britney if there was also a second child involved.
Rumors aside, Federline went yesterday and filed the court papers, with his lawyer stating for the public record that this is not about money but about the children's best interest. 'Kevin is prepared to go the distance in order to do what he feels is necessary to protect and safeguard the children and will not be intimidated or dissuaded from pursuit of those goals', Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline's attorney, said on the steps of the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Besides full custody, Kevin is also asking for spousal support from Britney, something that she did not ask for in the court papers she filed. The amount of the allowance that the pop star is to pay to her struggling wannabe rapper was not specified. However, it was hinted that he would also ask for child support for his other two children that he has with former girlfriend Shar Jackson.
Calls for comment were not returned by Britney's lawyer or publicist, but a statement from her camp is expected pretty soon.
