If you live in Britain

Many things can be considered scary and lots of them are made scary because people think of them that way. The ones that tend to make things scarier than they are suffer of all kinds of phobias and, according to a study recently published by Dial-a-Phone, four out of five people living in Britain of some sort of ringtone phobia.

They fear other people's critical behavior towards how their cellphones' ringtone sounds like. The survey's questions have been answered by people between 18 and 34 years old and it demanded them to match personalities with ringtones. The results seem to somewhat confirm the deepest fears the British residents have because almost every match the survey participants made contains a little dose of criticism.

So, if you live on a big island and you have French neighbors living across the English Channel, you should pay attention because the results of the survey were as follows.

If you have a "Top 10 hit" ringtone, the other people can categorize you as being an individual who: moves with times but, on the other side, they could also consider you to be a fashion victim who tries too hard to be cool.

If you've got the "Classic Hit" ringtone, you are seen as a laid back thirty something attempting to make a statement with a personal favorite. A not so critical description but you won't get the popularity prize either.

If you choose the "Hollywood Blockbuster" type, people might consider you a real movie lover, but also one that probably watches too many of them.

The "Current TV show" type of ringtone can categorize you as a fun person but also as one that has too much time on their hands.

The "Retro TV show" one makes you a creative individual with a love for pop culture but, on the other side, you may also give the wrong impression and you'll probably be perceived as a little too nerdy.

The "Children's theme tune" makes you a game for a laugh, up for having a good time but also a person with a tendency to annoy people.

A "Sport theme tune" will make people think of you as an armchair sports person who enjoys a laugh but, unfortunately also as a man/woman with a poor imagination.

The "Classical" ringtone is the one tasteful and educated individuals tend to have on their cellphone but that doesn't necessary mean you won't have problems: this automatically makes you to be the guy that likes to be a little on the old side.

The crazy frog type, the specially made to be a ringtone, is, according to the survey participants totally unacceptable and also makes you totally undesirable.

The original ringtone that comes with the phone means you are an individual which doesn't try to impress, the type of guy that probably has better things to do than constantly changing their ringtone.

The "Ring Ring" makes you the super cool guy/gal you ever wanted to be but some view it as boring because it is showing a lack of confidence and creativity.

And, finally, the vibrate setting aka meeting aka silent shows you like an introvert, not wanting to be noticed or as a businessman not wanting to be rude.

In conclusion, 90 percent of the British have had their fair share of criticism because of their choice of ringtones and 42 percent has the chance to get criticized because they never tried to personalize their phone.

As Flic Everett from Dial-a-Phone says "ringtones are a cheap and fun way to personalize your mobile phone, I am shocked that so many people get stressed about it - choose something you like and don't be ashamed to let it ring!"
