Ironsun, a self-described micro studio, announces that it is seeking the necessary resources to create a video game called Fathom, which will use adventure game mechanics and a theme that mixes steampunk, gothic and Atlantis.

The game is now on Kickstarter and gamers who like the concept have 29 days to contribute and help the team get to its goal of 120,000 British Pounds, about 182,000 dollars (138,000 Euro).

Paul Kelly, the managing director of Ironsun Studios, states, “At Ironsun, we are massive fans of Steampunk and feel that this sub-genre has been completely underused in today’s world of interactive entertainment.”

In Fathom, gamers will be able to become Nathaniel Lockhart, an adventurer from the 1870s, who manages to get lost in the Carribean and has no memory of the events that got him shipwrecked.

What he does have are strange dreams and nightmares that drive him to set sail for the area where he was lost and try to uncover its mysteries, using a unique Battysphere and its abilities, working deep underwater to save his own sanity.

He adds, “Fathom mixes the myth of the lost city of Atlantis, the worlds of underwater exploration and combat with puzzle solving as players journey deep in the waters of the Caribbean sea, visiting ancient ruins and beautiful caverns in an awe-inspiring beautiful 2.5D world.”

The player needs to explore Atlantis, repair the broken machine that he finds there and solve a number of ancient puzzles.

Fathom will mix traditional adventure elements with action setpieces and will use a unique graphics style, with Victorian style mixed with the more classic look of Atlantis.

Ironsun Studios says that all those who back Fathom via Kickstarter will get access to rewards including an in-game relic, demos, limited edition T-shirts and more, all based on the themes of the game.
