14 DAY TRIAL // Jessica Simpson and her dad / manager Joe Simpson are no longer seeing eye to eye. While he was initially thrilled about news of her engagement, he no longer wants her to marry fiancé Eric Johnson, a new report suggests.
The latest print issue of Star magazine (story via here) claims Joe is again up to his old controlling tricks, telling Jessica she shouldn’t rush into marriage right now.
Joe is convinced that Jessica can do so much better than Eric, especially since she’s the breadwinner in what would be a new family if she married Eric, the tab says.
“Though Joe Simpson was initially a fan of Jessica Simpson’s fiancé, Eric Johnson, the overprotective dad is now singing a different tune,” the magazine writes.
“It seems Eric’s unemployed status – the former pro-football player was in grad school for business before dropping out after meeting Jess – is causing some major concern,” Star argues.
Joe has made no secret of his real feelings towards Eric and this further adds pressure on Jessica, who is caught in the middle.
“It bothers Joe that Jessica is paying for everything and that Eric really doesn’t have a job,” a spy says for the publication, adding that Joe has already told his daughter she should call off the wedding while there’s still time.
“Joe thinks Jessica can do much better and that’s the bottom line,” says the insider.
All this time, Jessica doesn’t know whether to choose her father or her fiancé, especially since she’s been warned before that marrying Eric would not be the best decision for her right now.
“Jessica is a daddy’s girl, so it bothers her that Joe no longer approves of Eric. She’s really torn,” says the spy.
If the above is accurate, this wouldn’t be the first time that Joe intervenes in his daughters’ personal life: he played an important part in Jessica’s divorce from Nick Lachey, and was even rumored to have told Ashlee to divorce Pete Wentz.
The two eventually reconciled after the divorce announcement and are still together – presumably because Ashlee wanted to spite her dad.
