Sony and Titan Studios announced their upcoming project, called Fat Princess, last year and some people quickly complained about the title of the game and about the center piece of the gameplay, which revolves around players trying to steal a princess that can be harder to carry depending on what she has eaten.

But the developers of the game have pressed on and are sure that people will see the game for what it is, a humor-filled take on an established genre.

Chris Millar, who is working on Fat Princess, told Gamasutra that “It's not a social commentary; some people just took it too far. I think, while some people saw the negative, it just showed the game to a lot more people and got a lot more people talking about it. What it comes down to is most people saw that it was just a fun game - it's very light-hearted. There's these cute characters, but also they get blown apart with their legs and arms flying off.”

One of the most important attributes of the art style of Fat Princess is originality. The developers have always wanted to have a game that would stand out of the crowd so that players could recognize it immediately. Their motivation is that nowadays you need to be able to attract people’s attention even before they get to the actual gameplay, which in itself will further serve to attract gamers and tie them to the game they are playing.

The cuteness of the title also serves to hide some of the complexities of Fat Princess. The game is class-based, built around team strategies and has integrated voice chat. The depth is enough to put off some gamers, but the rich visuals can counter that and attract more people.
