Dropout requires no installation and it its purpose is to find data super-fast. It is designed for portable storage devices, but it can be used on regular hard drives if Windows Search doesn’t cut it for you.

In order to work at full speed, first it needs to index the data on the drive. Another requirement is that it needs to be placed on the drive it performs the search on, hence it doing a better job with portable devices.

It can be used to search multiple directories or exclude files. Indexing is done automatically in the background and starts as soon as you launch the application. To make searches even faster, it supports autocomplete.

On top of this, the “advanced” screen of the interface lets you search for content inside a document. Besides punching in the text you want to find you also have to define the file type that contains it.
