SanDisk Corporation announced the launch of a device designed to play the middle man role between the today's laptops and notebooks which are equipped with the ExpressCard slot and the most popular memory card formats. The SanDisk Multi Card ExpressCard Adapter plays that role as it offers fast transfer speeds without the need of cables or external card readers.

As the ExpressCard multi format reader is based
on a fast data transferring standard it allows users to copy and move large quantities of data from one device to another in a matter of seconds and most importantly, the SanDisk adapter supports six popular memory card formats: SD, SDHC, MultiMediaCard, MMCplus, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo, unlike most competing adapters that are only supporting one such format.

"With the SanDisk Multi Card ExpressCard Adapter, we're supporting the rise of the ExpressCard slot in notebook computers," said Matthijs Hutten, Senior Product Marketing Manager at SanDisk, who was later cited in his company's press release. "We expect ExpressCard to completely replace the PC Card standard in the near future, so offering an ExpressCard adapter which integrates many popular card formats is a natural move for SanDisk."

As not every laptop or notebook comes with integrated memory card readers and because most external readers are connected via cables, the SanDisk Multi Card ExpressCard Adapter is an easy system upgrade, as users simply have to plug it in an ExpressCard slot and because there is no software to install, the adapter is instantly ready to use. By simply extracting the desired memory card from a multimedia device such as a camera or MP3 player and placing it in the special corresponding slot inside the SanDisk reader, users have speedy access to all information stored on that card.

Because most embedded card readers do not support the newer SD High Capacity (SDHC for short) format or the Memory Stick PRO Duo small form factor, the SanDisk built adapter can still be useful as it offers native support and compatibility with the two formats.
