Even diehard fans might have overlooked this, and it’s only understandable, given that it was all done in a hush so great the industry rarely gets to witness. While initially people couldn’t stop talking about a sequel to the successful 2001 “The Fast and the Furious,” one that would reunite the original cast, things just died down later. Now, we learn that such a sequel is coming our way and MTV has the teaser poster to prove it.

The 2003 follow-up “2 Fast and 2 Furious” was, according to critics, a match for the first film in the series only in terms of special effects and the cars used. As far as quality goes, the second part was a major flop and, clearly, this is a feeling that also resounded with countless fans. The 2006 “Tokyo Drift” ranked even lower than this. Hopefully, the same won’t happen with the fourth film, which not only brings Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez back, but also promises to rise up to the challenge.

Nevertheless, no matter how smart by its simplicity this brand new poster might seem, industry watchers are already warning us that we’re not to expect a miracle come April 3. “Fast & Furious” will not depart from what its predecessors did, no matter how much the director and the movie studio will attempt to sell it for something different. It will be, at the end of the day, still a movie about cars and how to create different situations to show them off.

The plot of the movie is also telling in this sense. Without offering any justification for the other two releases in between them, “Fast & Furious” will team Dominic Torretto again with agent Brian O’Conner, with the higher purpose of defeating a common and extremely dangerous enemy. Plenty of tire screeches and gunshots are guaranteed to ensue from the collaboration, leading the way to, quote, “two men [who] will find the best way to get revenge: push the limits of what’s possible behind the wheel.” What’s still left for us to do is to sit back and enjoy the ride.
