Forget about Jimmy Choo: fashion student Lisa Dillon of Bath Spa University is offering an interesting alternative to the iconic pumps, in the form of a pair of shoes made entirely out of cheddar cheese. Talk about stinky feet.

The shoes might not be the height of sophistication and elegance, but at least they prove cheese can also be used for other things than we may have imagined: like, for shoes.

The unlikely heels will go on display this June, as part of the 2011 Royal Bath & West Show, which promotes the cheese made in the region.

No wonder then that the shoes were commissioned by Pilgrims Choice Cheddar, the Daily Mail reports.

“The budding fashionista sculpted a block of cheddar to make the heel, and a stale cheese sandwich was used for part of the platform sole,” the British tab says of the new design.

The Jimmy Cheese shoes might not be pretty, but there’s no denying Dillon’s originality in making them, especially since she seems able to walk in them without problems.

“The front of the shoe was molded from more cheddar and extra cheese was melted and shaped to embellish the design,” the Mail adds. It also has plenty of photos of the shoes “in action.”

As noted above, the design was not meant to be practical: it’s a piece of art that will also serve to promote the local cheese, which is why it will be exhibited along with other similar projects from students from Bath Spa University.

A spokesperson for Pilgrims Choice Cheddar promises an exhibit like no other, meant to please even the most pretentious of cheese lovers.

“Our sponsorship of the National Cheese Awards has become the high point of the year for consumers and visitors to the Show who love cheese,” the rep says.

“We had an incredible response from the public last year to our Cheese Sculpture Awards Class, where we show-cased the World’s largest cheese sculpture ever recognized. This year, we are set to go one step further and I can promise visitors they won’t be disappointed!” adds the same representative.
