This shift in the animals' diet was prompted by the 2012 drought

In the aftermath of this year's drought, American farmers who are in the business of growing cattle for dairy and meat found themselves unable to properly look after the animals in their care due to the fact that much of the corn crops were lost to the extreme temperatures and harsh environmental conditions.

Faced with this new situation, they had no choice but to adapt to it and some of the solutions they brought forth were rather innovative.

Thus, as sources report, some farmers decided that, since no corn was available, the next best thing would be cookies, marshmallows, fruit loops and gummy worms.

Apparently, all of these treats were chosen because they were relatively cheap and easy to come by.

However, there are still some who managed to find more suitable alternatives, such as rice or potato products, peanut pellet and other similar nutrient sources.
