Players should expect all sorts of crazy things

Ubisoft talks a bit more about the Far Cry 4 open world and how its team worked hard to add plenty of random encounters across its environments, as well as to ensure that players aren't restricted in their exploration.

Far Cry 4 launches next month and promises to further improve on the already-stellar Far Cry 3 by switching up the open world, the setting, as well as the story, which is filled with fresh characters like protagonist Ajay Ghile or villain Pagan Min.

The large open world isn't restrictive

While there are still a few things that have yet to be detailed, such as the anticipated competitive multiplayer mode, Ubisoft has now shared some details about the design principles its team used when making the open world of Kyrat, set in the Himalaya mountain range.

According to Vincent Quellette, who talks with StrategyInformer, one of the main goals with Kyrat is to ensure that it feels like a country set in the Himalayas but isn't restrictive in terms of paths and exploration.

As such, the team worked hard to add plenty of roads, not to mention tools for players to use to get from point A to point B.

"As a level designer of course I build the levels, I build the paths... we have a rule in-house that says if you build a cliff you have to make a way to get up or down it every hundred metres or so. We want to make sure that the player is never cornered somewhere or can't get somewhere, and that's why we've made new tools to get around and keep the game fun. It's always good to have a high location to recon enemies, and we have the wingsuit again so you can just jump off a cliff and get to them," he explains.

The random encounters will keep things fresh

What's more, in order to ensure that the world remains entertaining even after a few hours of exploration, an even beefier random encounter system is present, fleshing out and adding more scenarios on top of what was possible in Far Cry 3.

"We also have the Encounter System that populates the world and if you go through an area multiple times you'll always have something different happening. As a designer it's hard to let go because you're not in control, but with Far Cry 3 we ended up with so many people sharing their stories online about all these crazy things happening to them. That's what's great about Far Cry, chaos happens whether you create it or not," Quellette adds.

As such, Far Cry 4 players should expect plenty of fun things to do and admire while exploring Kyrat in the new title next month on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
