Ubisoft confirms that the first major gameplay expansion for Far Cry 4 is called Escape from Durgesh Prison and is set to launch in January. The add-on brings a new standalone adventure that's way more challenging and includes permanent death, as dying will cause you to restart the whole quest.

Far Cry 4 was one of the most anticipates games of the fall season, as millions of fans who fell in love with the previous Far Cry 3 and with its Blood Dragon standalone expansion wanted to see if Ubisoft could once again deliver a great first-person shooter experience.

The title impressed many across the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms, and now Ubisoft is working hard on the planned add-ons for the actual shooter.

Escape from Durgesh Prison is the first DLC for Far Cry 4

The first add-on for Far Cry 4 has just been revealed by Ubisoft on the official blog, in the form of Escape from Durgesh Prison.

The new adventure consists of a main quest that can be completed alone or cooperatively with a friend. Don't expect just a simple adventure, however, as players are stripped of their weapons and must fight for survival in the dangerous environment of Kyrat, while completing side quests to recover some of their guns.

Race against the clock and avoid permanent death

The add-on is a timed experience, however, so players will have to move swiftly and not get greedy when it comes to the side activities. One other important aspect must be taken into consideration, as dying is a permanent affair in Escape from Durgesh Prison, as you have to restart the whole thing when you succumb to your wounds.

"Kyrat is dangerous enough when you’re fully armed and capable of respawning. But facing the dangers of this treacherous nation… with nothing in your arsenal? That’s going to be tricky," Ubisoft explains.

"After Ajay and Hurk wake up in Yuma’s prison, stripped of all their weapons, they will need to complete challenges to find new weapons and unlock skills. Take your time to plan and be careful, but not too much time because the clock is still ticking and you need to reach the extraction point."

Escape from Durgesh Prison launches on January 13, 2015, across the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms. It will be free for Season Pass owners, while regular Far Cry 4 users will have to pay 10 USD/EUR to experience the challenging add-on.
