Far Cry 4 is one of the games shown during Sony's E3 press conference and, apart from the cinematic intro, the first-person shooter has also gotten a nice trailer showcasing its co-op gameplay. It turns out Sony is preparing a nice surprise for fans of the action series.

Far Cry 4 features drop-in / drop-out co-op multiplayer, allowing you and a friend to take on the wild environments of Kyrat together. It even has a fancy name to it, Guns for Hire Mode. Both of the involved players get experience, in-game cash and tons of fun stirring up mayhem in the war-torn land.

Sony's Adam Boyes has revealed that, when you buy Far Cry 4, you can invite your PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 friends to join in the action, even if they don't own the game themselves.

Presumably, the game will make use of Sony's Gaikai tech in order to enable gamers to enjoy the game together, in a manner similar to how the upcoming PlayStation Now service works.

The PlayStation exclusive feature is called Keys to Kyrat (the name of the place where all hell is breaking loose), allowing everyone to explore the lush valleys and beautiful mountain ranges while the civil war is raging all around.

The game sharing feature is available only to PlayStation Network members, but the co-op mode is presumably available across all platforms, allowing players to seamlessly join their friends' adventure much more organically than Far Cry 3 permitted. Unfortunately, Sony has not been too clear on whether the new feature means that players can team up and do story missions together.

Apart from the gameplay vid available below, Sony has also revealed the first five minutes of the game, setting up the scene for the dreadful adventure to come. The trailer shows the game's protagonist's bus getting shot up while traveling across the Himalayas, and introduces the main antagonist, who, of course, is acting pretty crazy in an attempt to dethrone Vaas, Far Cry 3's main villain.

The game is said to offer the same open-world structure that has consecrated the franchise, and Ubisoft has said that they have a few surprises in store for their fans, some fresh ideas that will keep long-term players' interest piqued.

The game was only announced a few months ago, but Far Cry 4 is already expected to come out on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One later this year, on November 18.
