Video game publisher Ubisoft has announced that it has plans to launch a two-week beta period for the multiplayer side of its upcoming Far Cry 3 during the summer, exclusively on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

The beta will offer participants access to six classes, matches for up to 16 players, dozens of weapons to use, hundreds of upgrades and customization options and a selection of games modes and maps.

Those who are interested in getting access to the Far Cry 3 beta stage will need to either purchase a new copy of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on consoles or become a member of the GameStop PowerUp Rewards program.

It’s not clear why Ubisoft is not also launching the beta stage on the PC, where it would likely get a bigger audience and better feedback.

Far Cry 3 will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft on September 4 in the United States and on the sixth of the month in Europe.
