Intel's NUC (next unit of computing) is hardly the only small form factor PC in the world. If anything, it is more of a newcomer to the field, and Axiomtek's latest system is a response to a long stream of similar product launches.
The device shown in the image gallery below, and the photo above, is powered by a combination of Intel's NM10 Express chipset and the Intel Atom Cedarview N2600 1.6 GHz dual-core processor.
It bears the part number eBOX530-830-FL and can run without the need for a fan, with operating temperatures going from -10°C to +50°C.
Spec-wise, buyers will get a 2.5-inch SATA HDD bay, four USB 2.0 ports, two COM ports, Gigabit Ethernet, a 204-pin DDR3-800 SO-DIMM module (up to 2 GB RAM) and optional VGA or DisplayPort interfaces.
All the hardware is packed inside an enclosure made of rugged aluminum and cold-rolled steel.
"Axiomtek develops eBOX530-830-FL as a versatile solution with benefits of small footprint and higher performance-per-watt for sophisticated embedded solutions" said Ray Chang, product manager of product and marketing division at Axiomtek.
"Axiomtek's eBOX530-830-FL offers a dummy-proof reset button to reboot the system forcibly which increases work efficiency. In addition, its CFast slot can endure vibration up to 3Grms and the lockable DC-in connector can also significantly reduce the impact of vibration & shock."
Axiomtek's product has orange activity LED for the HDD, a green power LED and din rails, enabling it to be installed on a wall, stand, etc. Even VESA.
Furthermore, the company tossed in a Watchdog Timer (can reset the system after a crash or error).
The palm-sized embedded PC can be used in extreme conditions, or for less hazardous applications like in-vehicle installations, in-flight infotainment, digital signage, medicine, various other automation & embedded applications, even entry-level gaming.
Sadly, no price was provided in the official press release.
