Fan gets close up and personal with Rihanna during live performance on The Today Show

Rihanna was in New York just hours ago, performing on The Today Show a set of songs included on her latest album. During the live performance of “S&M,” one fan grabbed her and wouldn’t let go, as the video below will confirm.

Rihanna’s appearance was included in 16th annual Toyota Concert Series on The Today Show. The pop star performed a 4-song set in Rockefeller Plaza.

It included, besides “S&M,” “Only Girl (In the World),” “California King Bed” and “What’s My Name,” with members of the audience clearly enjoying every moment of Rihanna on stage.

One fan in particular enjoyed seeing Rihanna live so much that he actually grabbed her as she walked by and refused to let her go, PopEater also reports.

“Sporting her signature red locks, a black patent leather Burberry trench coat and baring her midriff, Rihanna started the performance from the street,” the e-zine says.

As she walked through the crowd (with plenty of bodyguards in tow), dancers kept joining her. They turned out to be of great assistance to Rihanna.

“En route to the stage, her dancers were forced to step in and help free the pop princess from one overzealous fan, who pulled her in for a hug and didn’t want to let go,” PopEater says.

No word yet on what happened to the fan after the show or if security got to him, but one thing is certain: he will have a very fond (albeit distressing for Rihanna) memory of the concert.

Speaking of live performances, last time Rihanna took to the stage was at the Billboard Music Awards 2011, where she sang the “S&M” remix in duet with Britney Spears.

The both of them are currently under fire from the Parents Television Council (PTC), which is also attacking ABC, for the saucy live performance which, the PTC believes, means exposing children to inappropriate behavior and music, as we also informed you the other day.

Neither Rihanna nor Britney has commented the accusations in any way – but below is video of RiRi on The Today, being a pro and continuing to sing even as her dancers try and pry her from the arms of the overzealous fan.
