Family Guy is about to explore a case of “polygamy,” as Microsoft and FOX will introduce a marriage to Windows 7
, in addition to that of Peter and Louis Griffin on a special edition of the show. The Redmond company, in collaboration with FOX One, has upgraded Family Guy to the latest iteration of the Windows client. Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show (Working Title) is an exclusive Windows 7-brand sponsorship experience that is scheduled to air Sunday, November 8, on FOX. The Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show is an event dedicated to Seth MacFarlane, creator of “Family Guy,” which will star Windows 7, the successor of Windows Vista, released to manufacturing on July 22nd, and available for purchase for the public come October 22nd.
“We’re working with FOX on innovative brand integrations that will show how the power and simplicity of Windows 7 can enhance the content FOX viewers love,” Gayle Troberman, general manager of consumer engagement and advertising at Microsoft, noted. “We have simplified the PC with Windows 7, and together with FOX, we’re simplifying entertainment.”
The show, designed to bring Windows 7 into the spotlight and in the focus of Family Guy viewers, is the result of work done by MacFarlane, and his “Family Guy” co-star, Alex Borstein, but also the Windows team and advertising agencies, Universal McCann and Crispin, Porter + Bogusky. Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show is an effort aimed to recapture the old “Texaco Star Theater”-style sponsorships but with a modern, 21st-century twist. Developed, written and produced by MacFarlane and Borstein along with Windows, Universal McCann and Crispin, Porter + Bogusky, the show will include Windows 7-customized branded integrations.
Because Windows 7 will take center stage, the special, half-hour-long special will be, otherwise, commercial-free content, ensuring that viewers will not be bombarded with ads, network promotions and will not have to endure through any commercial breaks. Still, Windows 7-branded programming would be blended seamlessly with the show content, Microsoft explained. But this won’t stop viewers to enjoy Family Guy humor, animation, Family Guy’s musical numbers, as well as a variety of comedy sketches, topped over with celebrity guests.
“We’re thrilled to be joining forces with Windows 7 on such an exciting, highly collaborative marketing campaign featuring the very unique talents of Seth MacFarlane as he overhauls the old Hollywood tradition of the sponsored variety show by marrying Windows 7 messaging with content,” Jean Rossi, president of FOX One and executive vice president of Sales for FOX, added. “By partnering with 20th Century Fox Television, Fox Licensing and Merchandising, FOX Sports, FX, FOX Sports on MSN and Hulu, we have developed a complementary initiative that goes well beyond the screen with customized assets that connect consumers with Windows 7.”
