Beloved cartoon dog meets his end by speeding car, was almost 8 years old

“Family Guy” fans are in mourning, after last night’s episode of their favorite series brought the death of the beloved family dog Brian. A video of the scene in which Brian met his end by speeding car is included below, embedded at the end of the article.

Brian was almost 8 years old and he had a career as colorful as it was impressive. His resume included Iraq war veteran, director of adult films, coke addict, writer and police dog, but he’d come to win the hearts of the fans with his witty lines and always on point one-liners.

Brian, as you can see, was hit by a speeding car while he was crossing the street to meet Stewie. He was rushed to the veterinarian but, by the time they got there, it was too late for him.

Fans hoping Brian’s death was just a gimmick often used in television and that he’d be brought back further down the line, should probably cast all hope aside already: he’s already been replaced by Vinnie, voiced by “Sopranos” star Tony Sirico.

A rep for Sirico tells TMZ that Vinnie has already appeared in half a dozen episodes, which means that, at least for now, there’s no coming back for Brian.

This would explain why upset fans have rushed online to try and convince producers that this is not a good idea: you can’t simply kill off such an amazing and popular character, they say.

“Family Guy” fan Aaron Thompson of Tuscaloosa started a petition on Change.org to get them to understand that no one in the fan community thinks Brian’s death is what the show needed: so far, it has over 23,000 signatures and growing.

“The writers of family guy didn't just kill off one of their creations, they killed off the dog who has lived in our homes for the last 15 years. They killed the dog we all have come to love. They killed America's dog!” Thompson writes, pleading with producers to at least consider bringing Brian back from the dead.

So far, no such luck.
